Sewers cleaned thanks to BRVA, DPW
Do you notice the rain overflow onto area streets after it rains? For example near the Bazbeaux Pizza/Chase Bank parking lot?
The Broad Ripple Village Association has been working with the City which has helped deal with the problem.
According to BRVA President Kent Springer, the BRVA met with Department of Public Works officials after recent flooding issues in August on Broad Ripple Avenue. DPW agreed to inspect and clean the sewers on College, Broad Ripple, and Carrollton and that work took place October 21-25, 2016.
The city took three days to clean out the sewers in the Village.
"The BRVA is hopeful this will solve the drainage problems in the area until a more permanent solution may be found," Springer stated.

Save on your utility bill this winter
Thanks to IPL and Citizens for some tips on how to save on your utility bills this winter. IPL has several ideas to help to cope with winter electricity bills:
Lower your thermostat to 68 degrees or lower to save on heating costs.
Close all doors, windows and screens. You may want to purchase inexpensive window kits to cover unused windows and doors with plastics. (I get mine at Lowes in Glendale for $5. You put film on the windows to keep the cold out.)
Prevent drafts by closing fireplace dampers when not in use.
Utilize IPL PowerToolsSM programs year-round for more tips on ways to manage energy and save money.
If customers need additional payment assistance, the federally funded Energy Assistance Program (EAP) is available again this year.
Need assistance paying your gas or water bill? Citizens Energy Group recommends you call Connect2Help at 211 or visit IndyEap.org to see if you qualify for the Energy Assistance Program or a variety of other household assistance programs.
If customers are falling behind on their bill, they are urged to call Citizens at 317-924-3311. Citizens recommends all customers enroll in the budget plan to help manage utility costs and spread payments over 12 months.
Energy and water-conservation tips include:
  • Changing your furnace filter once a month helps your furnace work more efficiently.
  • Dial down your thermostat. A 10-degree reduction for an 8-hour period each day will reduce your heating bill 10 percent.
  • Dial down your water heater. A 10-degree reduction in water temperature saves five percent on energy costs.
  • Check your toilet, faucets and pipes for leaks.
  • Don't leave the water running as you brush your teeth, shave or wash dishes.
  • Only run the dishwasher and clothes washers when they are full, and use a water-saver cycle if you have one.
