Snappy Sips

Purdue University is still taking entries for the 2016 Indy International Wine Competition. Judges will sip and score the first week of August. Winners will be announced in time for the 2016 Indiana State Fair. Easley Winery was the big winner last year as its Indiana grown Traminette took top honors.
An internationally known white wine worth finding is the Hugel et Fils "Gentil" from Alsace. It's a blend of grapes that creates a crisp, dry wine with notes of green apple, lime and a long clean finish. A versatile white that could pair with a number of proteins from bratwurst to burrata cheese on arugula to grilled halibut. Give it a Broad Ripple touch and serve that brat or cheese on a pretzel bun or slice of Vital bread from Brotgarten bakery at Perk Up Cafe on Cornell. Other Hugel wines to shake up your summer wine line up include the spicy Gewurtztraminer, and classic old world style Pinot Gris.
