Stoner Rock BBQ with Slow Season and JC Autobody
Wednesday, June 1, 2016
Bent Rail Brewery
5301 Winthrop Avenue - all-ages, doors 7 PM, $10
Stoner Rock BBQ started as a way to combine three of the founders' passions; grilling, American microbrews and stoner rock. They've also branched out to events, incorporating their passion for hospitality and giving back to the community by helping to bring food, music and beer together to bring awareness and support to a variety of causes. A portion of the proceeds from the show will benefit Second Helpings, a nonprofit food rescue, culinary job training, and hunger relief organization serving the Greater Indianapolis area.
Slow Season is rock and roll at its howlin' heaviest. JC Autobody describes their sound as "fuzzed out horror-psyche." I look forward to hearing what that sounds like!
And of course there will be delicious food and spectacular beer available.
I'll see you there!

Commercial Article 08 Launch Party
Friday, June 3, 2016
PRINTtEXT
652 E. 52nd Street - all-ages, 6 - 10 PM, free
Commercial Artisan is the graphic design studio of the fabulous brothers, James and Jon Sholly. Their most excellent design work can be found all over the city. Commercial Article is the studio's offshoot publication that explores design figures from Indiana whose lives and work have been under-documented.
In "Article 08" they feature George Philip Meier, a prominent fashion designer in Indianapolis in the early years of the 20th century. His wife Nellie Simmons Meier was a scientific palmist who consulted movie stars, artists, adventurers and at least one president. Their life was filled with glamorous trips to Paris for months at a time. When they came home, it was to Tuckaway - their ornate Indianapolis house that has lived on in legend many years after the deaths of its owners.
The Sholly's are celebrating the launch of the new issue at PRINTtEXT with drinks and treats. Meet author Connie Zeigler to learn more about the Meiers and Tuckaway, and chat with the men behind the designs.

Not-for-profit director by day, music writer by night, Nora Spitznogle reviews music that happened and previews music and events around Broad Ripple Village. Nora managed CATH Inc coffeehouse at 54th Street and College Avenue for seven years. During that time she hosted hundreds of local and touring musicians, both at the coffeehouse and her home. When CATH closed in 2004 and the music was no longer coming to her, she had to wander from her corner of Broad Ripple to see what is happening elsewhere. You can find her at Second Helpings during the work day, waitressing at the Red Key on Saturday nights and prowling Broad Ripple music venues the rest of the time.
