Poetic Thoughts - young riley in greenfield - by C.W. Pruitt II

The Young James Whitcomb Riley
Before James Whitcomb Riley moved to Indianapolis, he blazed a trail as a young poet in Greenfield, Indiana. Below is a poem of my impression of the young Riley in Greenfield.
young riley in greenfield
his razzle-dazzle
was set on fire -
his hat and suit
were comprised of
brilliant neon patches
of searing flamboyance -
his performances
were epic
in their volume
and direct confrontation
of the dizzying
cosmic poet
it would seem
that those who
saw him
in greenfield
would find
the young poet
a madman
instead they saw
a hoosier poet
blistering across
the sky
