Buzzing Around Town

Brrr. Winter is finally upon us and it's hard to leave your cozy home. I encourage you to pop out for music to warm your heart. I've been enjoying hearing music on Sunday evenings. It is a nice way to wrap up the weekend and ease into the week with a head full of tunes. Read on for details for two every-week events.

Acoustic Music Open Stage with Gary Wasson
Sundays
Corner Wine Bar/Wine Cellar
6331 Guilford Ave - 21+, 6 - 10 PM, free
The talented musician, Gary Wasson, hosts the open stage. If you've never been to an open stage, the fun is in the variety. Musicians sign up to play a few songs and often impromptu groups form with folks jumping in to play guitar or sing harmony. The music is in the cozy Wine Cellar downstairs.
The menu from the Corner Wine Bar is available along with their extensive selection of wine, craft beers, and full bar.

Traditional Music Session
Sundays
Upland Tasting Room
4842 N. College Ave - 21+, 6 - 10, free
A Traditional Music Session is an informal group of musicians playing mostly Irish music. Sort of a pickup game for fiddlers and such. The Sunday night sessions at the Upland Tasting Room aren't scheduled but they always seem to magically happen.
Upland's fine beers are on the menu and there is a pint and pitcher special.

PRINTtEXT Second Anniversary Celebration
Saturday, January 30, 2016
Printtext
652 E 52nd Street - all-ages, 6 - 9 PM, free
PRINTtEXT is a delightful shop, salon, archive, and study. They carry periodicals focusing on fashion, literature, design, political miscellany, architecture, food, art, and almost anything else you can think of. They encourage browsing and conversation. They are celebrating their two year anniversary with an open house - pop in to congratulate them for being a great part of our community.

Not-for-profit director by day, music writer by night, Nora Spitznogle reviews music that happened and previews music and events around Broad Ripple Village. Nora managed CATH Inc coffeehouse at 54th Street and College Avenue for seven years. During that time she hosted hundreds of local and touring musicians, both at the coffeehouse and her home. When CATH closed in 2004 and the music was no longer coming to her, she had to wander from her corner of Broad Ripple to see what is happening elsewhere. You can find her at Second Helpings during the work day, waitressing at the Red Key on Saturday nights and prowling Broad Ripple music venues the rest of the time.
