No Tricks Just Treats

Sausage, Suds & Sips

Perk Up Cafe/Brotgarten Artistry Bread & Pastries added more "Best" to its "WURST FEST" the past two Sunday afternoons. Each Sunday the cafe hosts a Koffee Klatsch with delectable slices of freshly made German cakes and pastries along with its house roasted coffee. The past two Sundays, Alice and Jeanette offered foot long savory German sausage served on house-made rolls along with craft beer and wine from Crush and Brew catering, and music by the Perk Up House band. People gobbled the sausages while they tapped their toes to the music. International recording artist Ben Davis was visiting the village on the 25th and spent some time jamming with the band.
Craft beer fans raved about the Pumpkin Ale and German Wheat beer from Bier Brewing (located near 62nd/Binford). Two Argentinian reds and an elegant dry German Riesling kept the wine lovers sipping and smiling. The 2014 Dr Pauly Bergweiler offers up enchanting aromas and flavors of stone fruit (apricot, white peach) and a clean mineral finish. Fantastic with the Wurst Feast but also a great bottle for the bird, as Thanksgiving is just a month away.

Broadcast Brew

Radio journalist Guy Raz host of NPR's "Ted Radio Hour" visited Indy last week as part of WFYI's "Listen Up!" event. For the occasion, Sun King Brewing created a special beer based on Guy's likes and dislikes. Razberry Blindness was a brown English ale aged in Port wine barrels and infused with raspberries and cardamom. Sun King Brew Master Dave Colt created the recipe when he found out Guy prefers wine to water (the port wine barrel aging) likes to pickle vegetables (Dave created a "sour" style of fruit beer ) and spent time covering the Middle East (cardamom spice infusion).
