Warfleigh residents want flood wall
Warfleigh residents have launched a petition drive to urge the city to work with the Army Corps of Engineers on the North Flood Wall project. Details are as follows from their website, www.savewarfleigh.org:
• The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers' floodwall project will protect the Broad Ripple, Warfleigh, Meridian Kessler and Butler Tarkington neighborhoods.
• The City now opposes the floodwall project and asks the Corps to pursue a plan the Corps previously identified as technologically and economically infeasible.
• Warfleigh home values decline as flood insurance premiums rise. Arden, Broad Ripple, Meridian Kessler and surrounding areas are harmed if Warfleigh deteriorates.
Details are as follows from their website, www.savewarfleigh.org

Proposed bus rapid transit line includes dedicated lane
IndyGo has made changes to its proposed Red Line over concerns about loss of parking. The Red Line is a proposed bus rapid transit (BRT) line that will go south to downtown and north to Carmel staring in 2018.
On College Avenue, on-street parking will be maintained except in the immediate vicinity of a few station areas.
Based on neighborhood feedback, station designs were reconfigured at 52nd, 54th, and Kessler to minimize parking losses at those locations.
IndyGo provided these answers to my questions-
Will there be a dedicated lane for the rapid bus line?
There will be a single center of street bi-directional dedicated lane from 65th/college to 38th/college. In general it will have dedicated lanes only on the before mentioned section of College, Meridian (38th - 18th) and Capitol (18th - Downtown).
Will the BRT driver have control over the traffic signals?
The vehicles will have prioritized signalization, meaning that if a BRT vehicle is approaching a green light, the green light might be held green, but only for 2-3 seconds to allow the bus through. They will not turn red lights into green lights.
What are the next steps?
The federal grant application is being submitted at the end of this month for the grant. IndyGo will continue to do public outreach with neighborhoods in the area. IndyGo will learn the results of the grant in March.
For more details go to indygo.net/redline/faq/
For those that can't wait for the BRT, we have two bus lines that serve downtown today from the Ripple (#17 and #18).
Councilman proposes recapture of BlueIndy parking spaces
A City-County Councillor spoke at a meeting recently and announced he will introduce a city ordinance to re-capture the parking spaces taken by BlueIndy, the city's new electric vehicle car sharing program. He noted that Blue Indy has taken 1,000 parking spaces for its 500 cars. Accordingly, he proposes some of these spaces be for regular car parking when they are not being used by BlueIndy cars.
Apparently one SoBro business had 4-5 spaces taken away for the BlueIndy electric car sharing program. There have been complaints that there was no advance notice, nor public discussion of this. On a recent afternoon, just one of the five BlueIndy spaces across from the Monon Coffee Company had any BlueIndy cars in them.

The Metropolitan School district of Washington Township is holding public feedback sessions. One will be October 15 at 7 p.m. at Crooked Creek Elementary. Another will be on November 4, 2015, at the Schools Central Office, 8550 Woodfield Crossing Boulevard. (I plan to attend to tell them to re-open the North Central pool with public swim hours.)
