posted: May 29, 2015
The Jazz Kitchen, 5377 College Ave [OO23], hosted a CD/LP release party for the newly discovered live and studio recordings from the legendary jazz guitarist from Indianapolis, Wes Montgomery. The two-disc set is titled, In the Beginning. There was a panel discussion about the recordings and the life of Wes. The panel included Zev Feldman, Executive Vice President & General Manager at Resonance Records, Wes's son Bobby Montgomery, and David Baker, Chair of the Jazz Studies Department at Indiana University's Jacobs School of Music. The panel discussed the uncovering of these recordings and also Wes's career at Jazz clubs in Indy. LUNA Music was there to sell the recordings to attendees. Afterwards, the Indy Guitar Summit featuring Bill Lancton, Steve Weakley and Frank Steans performed a set of tunes that Wes either recorded or wrote.
