Howling at the Moon by Susan Smith

Howling at the Moon header

I am down in Hilton Head on my annual spring sojourn. As I write this a terrible storm has blown in over the island tonight and the lightning and thunder is ferocious. I feel like I should be sitting down to the keyboard to write a horror story. Hail is pounding and I am ready for the lights to go out. So without further ado I need to get this turned in by deadline (always the procrastinator but hey I'm on Island Time). . . ..
Last month I opened my email box and found this intriguing information from a guy named Mark Schuette promoting his invention, a dog powered scooter, making dog mushing available to everyone. He included lots of photos. It ships from Buffalo NY. I am always hearing about dogs that are serious pullers when walked and dogs that need lots of exercise. His invention is really genius. I think this would be so much fun! We use to run our Dalmatian alongside our Schwinn tandem bike. She ran like the wind and loved it. She would have been the perfect candidate for this form of exercise. Below is a testimony taken from his website www.dogpoweredscooter.com

Hi Mark,
Now that it's been a while since we purchased out scooter and Sampson is totally trained in it, I just wanted to let you know how completely happy I am with my purchase ! It was worth every penny. We go riding 2 or 3 times a week, it's a great way for him to get out all that excess energy. He's such an active pup he gets bored easily too, so it's great to have something else besides walking, jogging and the dog park. I was nervous at first from him tilting to the sides, but again once they are comfortable there is no more sideways tugging. I feel I have total control, even when Samson sees another dog or a squirrel. Samson likes it so much, once he is clipped in but I'm not ready to move yet, he does this weird thing where he gets all fired up and tries to get my attention by biting my shoe laces, as if he's saying "let's go, mom" !
Just wanted to thank you again for your great product and your great customer service while we were still training and trouble shooting.
Alex

If you go on his website and get one I want to hear about it. I think it would be a blast down the Monon Trail! It will sure turn some heads.
Now for another interesting invention: Dog Rocks. The only 100% natural, proven & convenient solution to pet urine burn spots on your grass & hedging. They are endorsed by vets and pet parents worldwide. It's very simple - Dog Rocks stops pet urine ruining your lawn, grass, shrubs and hedging. It is 100% natural, proven and a hassle free prevention and cure to canine grass burn patches. No medication is required, safe for all breeds of dogs and any other pet you share your household with. Dog Rocks were discovered in Australia by an Aboriginal gardener in the 1990s. The product has since been tried, tested, launched & sold into pet, vet and garden centers worldwide with over 1 million packs sold. They really are kind of crazy. I've been walking by them at trade shows for a few years and this Spring decided to try them out. Just pop them in your dog's water bowl. Here's what the manufacturer has to say:
Dog Rocks provide a stable matrix and a micro porous medium in which active components are able to act as a water purifying agent through ion exchange. For this reason, when placed in water, Dog Rocks will help purify the water by removing some nitrates, ammonia and harmful trace elements thereby giving your dog a cleaner source of water and lowering the amount of nitrates found in their diet thereby lowering the amount that is expelled in their urine. An overload of nitrates in urine will cause lawns to burn. Dogs do produce nitrates as a by-product from the protein in their diet, but the difference between too much nitrate that will kill the grass and the amount of nitrate that will be good for the grass is very small.
I hate those ugly spots in the lawn so I figured something tried and true might be worth checking out. Rock on! Pets make you smile!
