Buzzing Around Town

Butler ArtsFest Outlaws & Outsiders
Through April 19, 2015
Butler University Campus - 4600 Sunset Blvd
There is still time to catch some of the great programs that are part of the Butler ArtsFest 2015, including Indianapolis Chamber Orchestra: Banned Music, Butler Ballet: The Sleeping Beauty, Reverend Peyton's Big Damn Band, and Carmina Burana performed by several Butler musical groups.

Record Store Day 2015 is here! Woo hoo! I highly encourage you to swing by a record store or two or three on Saturday, April 18. We are so fortunate to have three independent record stores within walking distance in the Broad Ripple Area, although we are soon to be two. Vibes Music is closing at the end of May when their lease is up. They will continue as an online entity and possibly open another bricks and mortar store in the future.

Friday, May 1, 2015
The Warehouse

all-ages, 8:00 PM, 7:30 doors, 8:00 PM show, $20
I have been excited and looking forward to this show all winter, back when May seemed so far away. Amy Speace played one of her first shows ever at CATH Coffeehouse (the acoustic venue at 54th and College Ave closed in 2004) and was one of the first musicians to sleep on my sofa.
She has come a long way since then, she's now opening for July Collins and signed on Judy's Wildflower Records label. She is on tour in support of her new album, That Kind of Girl.
I'll see you there!

Not-for-profit director by day, music writer by night, Nora Spitznogle reviews music that happened and previews music and events around Broad Ripple Village. Nora managed CATH Inc coffeehouse at 54th Street and College Avenue for seven years. During that time she hosted hundreds of local and touring musicians, both at the coffeehouse and her home. When CATH closed in 2004 and the music was no longer coming to her, she had to wander from her corner of Broad Ripple to see what is happening elsewhere. You can find her at Second Helpings during the work day, waitressing at the Red Key on Saturday nights and prowling Broad Ripple music venues the rest of the time.
