John Coltrane Tribute at Jazz Kitchen - Rob Dixon Quintet "A Love Supreme"
posted: Feb. 06, 2015
It was as if John Coltrane was on stage at the Jazz Kitchen during the recent special concert at 54th and College. To celebrate the 50th anniversary of the groundbreaking LP A Love Supreme by John Coltrane, the Rob Dixon Quintet (Steve Allee, Jim Anderson, Rob Dixon, Steve Houghton, and Wayne Wallace) played the entire four-movement composition, "Acknowledgement", "Resolution", "Pursuance", and "Psalm", to a sold-out crowd. Rob combined the final section, Psalm, with another Coltrane composition Alabama, which Coltrane wrote as a musical response to a brutal 1963 church bombing that killed four girls.
