Brandi Castle is the banner artist in this issue. Brandi was inspired to create this banner by Broad Ripple's rich history. Starting with how the area earned its name, she was drawn to learn more about the community we all call home. Most residents can tell you the history of the Vogue, or about the amusement park that once rivaled Coney Island. Yet, most have never taken the time to pursue the details, like learning Ravenswood was once a destination resort. She created this piece to inspire our residents to do their own research, to expand our ties with our beloved neighborhood.
While Brandi lived in Broad Ripple through college, she left to travel. Lucky to live in such places as the Bahamas, Raleigh, and Key West she was exposed to ample new experiences. It was not until she took a position as a photographer for the Dolphin Research Center that she returned to a lifelong passion, photography. Now she is back in Indianapolis splitting her time between the Red Key Tavern and creating pieces of art out of her home studio in South Broad Ripple. If you would like to see some more of her work you can follow up with Seaside Castle Designs, email her at SeasideCastle@gmail.com, or find her doing her best to honor Russ's legacy.
