Indiana State Fairgrounds - 1202 E. 38th Street

It's State Fair time! The State Fair has bushels of music this year. Dozens of free shows scattered around the grounds and ticketed concerts in the newly renovated (including beer taps) Coliseum.

Tickets for the Coliseum Concert Series are sold at all Ticketmaster Outlets, Ticketmaster.com, charge-by-phone at 800-745-3000 or the Indiana State Fair Box Office. All ticket purchased before Friday, July 18th will include admission to the Indiana State Fair.

Main Street Stage

Across from the Coliseum on the heart of Main Street (those streets do have names, you know) is the Subaru Main Street Stage. I love that this stage features a wide variety of Indiana artists and the shows are free with Fair admission. There are plenty of picnic tables at this stage. It's the perfect place to grab some food and take a break. All shows are free with State Fair paid admission.

This stage is in the red barn (cleverly named Pioneer Village) in the northeast corner of the Fairgrounds. There is plenty of church pew seating and you might want to bring your own fan - or this paper will do.

Pioneer Village Opry Stage - WLS Natl Barn Dance Review

I always love this show and was reminded of how much when I saw a taped broadcast of last year's show on WFYI the other night. Pioneer Village musicians recreate the WLS National Barn Dance radio show that was broadcast from Chicago from 1924 - 1968. The cast does a great job in throwing in a little history, some musician profiles, and a corny joke or two.

The Opry Stage is also in Pioneer Village in a barn right behind the Pioneer Village Barn.

Not-for-profit director by day, music writer by night, Nora Spitznogle reviews music that happened and previews music and events around Broad Ripple Village. Nora managed CATH Inc coffeehouse at 54th Street and College Avenue for seven years. During that time she hosted hundreds of local and touring musicians, both at the coffeehouse and her home. When CATH closed in 2004 and the music was no longer coming to her, she had to wander from her corner of Broad Ripple to see what is happening elsewhere. You can find her at Second Helpings during the work day, waitressing at the Red Key on Saturday nights and prowling Broad Ripple music venues the rest of the time.
