Marian Mosior and Ginnie Yang co-own Menchie's Frozen Yogurt store, located at 6161 Keystone Avenue, Suite 700, in Glendale Town Center. They recently described the kinds of yogurt they sell.

"We have four major types of frozen yogurt with different flavors that are made from organic milk from Scott's Brothers Dairy Farm in California. Menchie's frozen yogurt does not contain High Fructose Corn Syrup or recombinant growth hormone (rBST). All Menchie's frozen yogurt contains live probiotics. The four main types of frozen yogurt are: (1) Plain - this type of yogurt is added with different natural ingredients to introduce different flavors; (2) No Sugar added (NSA), traces of natural sugar from food itself is in this type of yogurt. No additional sugar is added. (3) Tart - This type of yogurt has similar properties as Greek yogurt. We also have various fruity mix-in to make flavored tart. (4) Low Carb NSA - this type of yogurt has low carbohydrate contents and has about one-third of the caloric content as the plain yogurt. In addition to these four types of yogurt, we also offer Menchie's private collection of sorbet for people who lactose intolerant or do not like milk-derived desserts," she explained.

"All Menchie's yogurt is made from organic milk fermented with probiotics. In addition to two probiotics, which are always present in every yogurt sold in the USA, there are four Menchie's special probiotic strains which offer additional benefits," Ms. Yang added.

Menchie's also offers 30 different dry toppings, 12 chill bar toppings and four different sauces to allow guests to create their own yogurt mix," she said. Some of the ingredients are cool whip, fudgy brownies, Reese's peanut butter cups, apple cinnamon, colored mocha, strawberries, maraschino cherries, fresh pineapple and bananas. Yogurt and Sorbet store displays list calorie information, gluten free, kosher, live and active cultures and no high fructose corn syrup labels as well to help consumers identify their preferences.

Marian and Ginnie are PhD research scientists who have worked in the biotech industry for the past 10 years. They met at the University of California of San Diego. He earned his master's degree in physics and his doctorate in biophysics from Wrocław University, located in his native Poland where he enjoyed eating yogurt as a child. Ginnie is a native of Ch'ingshuei, Taiwan, who earned her doctorate in biochemistry from the Ohio State University.

Their science background in researching cures for diseases draws a parallel in offering customers a variety of yogurt in various flavors.

"We were interested in doing some kind of small business and out of all the options that we had considered, I think the one this one provides the healthiest products. It's easy. The main reason is the product because it's healthy. Healthy food is the best preventative medicine," Ms. Yang noted.

They also offer freshly made waffle cones. One of Menchie's specialties is a chocolate covered waffle cone that is made fresh in the store. They develop a different flavor each month that is added to their collection of yogurt.

When customers visit, they will see different varieties of yogurt at different times depending on their availability. The also sell pencils, buttons lip balm and beanie hats.

"We offer pre-packs of 16 ounces and 32 ounces of yogurt that can be carried out and served at home or taken on picnics during the summer. Consumers can make cakes, pies and smoothies from them as well," Mosior said.

Menchie's recently celebrated their first anniversary June 6-8 with the following events: Friday to Sunday, individuals entered a raffle to win a $50 voucher. Kids 12 years of age and under received four ounces of free yogurt. On Saturday, 10 Menchie's dodge balls and 10 colored t-shirts were given away. On Sunday, customers purchased one cup of yogurt and received another one of the same or lesser value free.
