Musical Family Tree 10th Anniversary Celebration
Friday, June 20 and Saturday, June 21, 2014
Musical Family Tree (like the Gazette) is celebrating ten years of Broad Ripple-based awesomeness. MFT is an online archive of Indiana music and band history. I can't tell you how many times in my years of writing this column that I reference the website and every time I poke around there I find music from favorite bands and discover new and fun things. When I clicked on the website to get the details about the celebration I found something that made me laugh out loud: a band cleverly named "Patachou," submitted songs named after the omelets at the 49th and Pennsylvania café. Those and thousands of other original songs are available for free download on the site.
Musical Family Tree is hosting two nights of Indiana based bands in celebration of their anniversary. A ticket for the Friday night concert includes tickets for Saturday night. You can also purchase tickets for Saturday night only.

Saturday, June 21, 2014

Allee is a nationally recognized pianist and composer and we're lucky to have him call Indianapolis home. As a native Hoosier he has several hometown heroes including many jazz greats, Wes, Buddy and Monk Montgomery, Slide Hampton, J.J. Johnson, David Baker, Freddie Hubbard and Melvin Rhyne, among others.
A portion of the CD sales from this evening will benefit Wheeler Mission Ministries.

Global Beatles Day
Wednesday, June 25, 2014
Faith Cohen founded Global Beatles Day in 2009 as a way to honor the Beatles' collective impact on the world. The Beatles performed All You Need Is Love on the first live global television broadcast. 400 million people watched on June 25, 1967, kicking off the Summer of Love.
On June 25 create your own love letter to the Beatles and spin a record, dance around your kitchen, let your hair fall over your eyes, and remember this line from the song, "And in the end, the love you take, is equal to the love, you make"

Not-for-profit director by day, music writer by night, Nora Spitznogle reviews music that happened and previews music and events around Broad Ripple Village. Nora managed CATH Inc coffeehouse at 54th Street and College Avenue for seven years. During that time she hosted hundreds of local and touring musicians, both at the coffeehouse and her home. When CATH closed in 2004 and the music was no longer coming to her, she had to wander from her corner of Broad Ripple to see what is happening elsewhere. You can find her at Second Helpings during the work day, waitressing at the Red Key on Saturday nights and prowling Broad Ripple music venues the rest of the time.
