I wrote the following poem while watching the A Different World episode where the students keep "The Pit" from closing.
This poem is dedicated to the small businesses of Broad Ripple and to small businesses everywhere.

small business

this is no longer
just a business
it is a public area
this is sacred space
the i - and - thou
has been exchanged
warmly exchanged
over and over
again until
the place itself
has soul
