Broad Ripple Museum - Now & Then - College and Westfield
posted: Jan. 24, 2014

Broad Ripple Museum header

This "Now & Then" picture is composed of two shots of Broad Ripple from roughly the same location, taken about 60 years apart.
The images are taken from the southwest corner of College and Westfield [H2 on map], just north of the recently opened parking garage, looking to the northeast down Broad Ripple Avenue.
In 1952, looking down what was then 63rd Street, there was Clifford "Kick" Frazier's Shell Station (Paul Walker, Broad Ripple history writer for the Gazette for many years, also owned that station) on the corner. Next to that to the east was Fletcher Trust Company (where my grandmother Helen Dawson Hague worked) which later became American Fletcher, then Bank One and finally Chase. Further to the east in the photo is Guarantee Tire and Rubber Company and Kroger before it moved to Guilford. Note the electric overhead wires for the street cars.
In the current day photo you can see Chase on the corner and to the east, BMO Harris Bank and Huntington Bank.
