Crime in the Ripple: GPS tracker on cell phone nabs robber
On October 22, 2013, IMPD police officers used an iPhone app (Find My IPhone App) to track down an armed robbery suspect.
The armed robbery occurred around 10:20 p.m. in the 900 block of E. 62nd Street in the Broad Ripple area. During the robbery, the victim's iPhone and purse were stolen. The victim was able to provide a vehicle description and a witness tracked the stolen iPhone using a Track my iPhone app. With the app's help, police tracked the suspect to the 4900 block of S. Hillside Avenue. Police said the suspect then led officers on a short vehicle pursuit to the 3700 block of Caroline Avenue. At that time, police said the suspect jumped from the car and ran on foot with gun in his hand. Officers were able to get the suspect's handgun and recover the victim's purse as well.
