As proprietor of The Coaching Cabin, located at 1049 E. 54th Street on the Monon Trail, Joel recently described his life's calling. "It was a similar process I support clients through, reflecting on what I had found most fulfilling in my life, which for me was when I had the opportunity to support individuals towards their own unique success, their best definition of success. I coach with everyone from people right out of college to people preparing for retirement and everyone in between. If you've been 'on' for so long, stepping into retirement and away from the working world is a transition. To all my clients, I'm a connector to them and I have the opportunity to garner a lot of unique insights from each that I learn from and I can support clients as well. It's a community of support that we create here."

His own career path led to the Pacific Northwest and proved to be a life-changing experience. "I went back to coaching school in 2008 and 2009 at Erickson College in Vancouver, Canada. I felt very much aligned with their principles and their program, 'The Art and Science of Coaching.' Dr. Marilyn Atkinson started the school back in 1981 - my overwhelming deciding factor to attend Erickson College was the upcoming class being led by Rae Chois. Rae is a Master Certified Coach who has co-authored three books with Dr. Atkinson. She has been one of the biggest mentors in my training and in my coaching today. I've been fortunate enough to have aligned with her and her teaching. It was a great experience and set a great foundation for me to build my personal style from," he recalled. Dr. Atkinson and Ms. Chois' books are available on-line.

A module four graduate of Erickson College, he is an Accredited Coach Training Program (ACTP) through the International Coach Federation (ICF). Joel is also a seasoned from scratch pizza maker, singer-songwriter and proud papa to daughter Isla and a giant Schnauzer named Crosby. He is originally from Logansport, Indiana.

"I have many clients in the Indianapolis and Broad Ripple area and also several clients that come down from South Bend. I ended up being connected to an individual there and got connected to others. Indianapolis and Broad Ripple are the crux, but I don't want to leave out those clients from South Bend that drive down," he said.

The Coaching Cabin's high visibility along the Monon Trail places it in an ideal setting. "I like to say that I envisioned this location before I found it. I wanted something small, but to be independent, in a village area with high foot traffic and I wanted it to be older, something that had a soul, which this place certainly does. I created that vision for it and it found me or I found it, however you prefer to look at it. The Coaching Cabin opened in April of 2012. I transitioned from corporate coaching where I coached salespeople toward successful roles and life balance. It was a stepping stone working in that world and allowing me the opportunity to transition to here, The Coaching Cabin and doing my life's work. It's a much wider breadth of coaching I am able to do here, serving my clients in a multiple of facets versus the agenda of an organization," he noted.
