Broad Ripple locals often encounter food trucks around their favorite stores, restaurants, and events, but very few have probably seen a mobile fashion store. Charmaine Sanders has set out to create one of the most unique shopping experiences in Broad Ripple with the launch of her completely mobile fashion truck, Blush Shoetique.

Sanders first opened a store on Westfield called Blush Shoetique, but when her lease was up, she considered closing the store and instead going completely mobile. "I didn't know if I wanted to sign another lease, so I decided to have a truck because I always eat at the food trucks downtown when I see them," she said. "I usually drop off and deliver people stuff if they want to see a pair of shoes or whatever, so that's where the idea came from as far as delivering shoes on a truck."
The store officially closed on August 3, 2013, and the mobile fashion truck, Blush, was launched. The company now houses their merchandise in a suite until they are ready to go out for an event.
Operating a truck instead of a store has its benefits, according to Sanders. "I can just put the money that I make back into my merchandise instead of paying rent. The only thing I pay is insurance and that's not a lot at all," she said.
Besides saving on rent and utilities, the truck is an interesting way to spice up any party or event. "It's very convenient and will add a different and unique thing to a party. You don't see a lot of food trucks or mobile fashion trucks at any event. It would just be different," said Sanders.

Naming the truck was an easy task for Sanders after seeing the reactions to her incredibly unique shoes in her store. "When people see funky shoes they tend to blush at them," she explained.
Sanders agrees that her most unique items are definitely her high heels because you can't find those particular styles in many other stores. Shoes are not the only kind of apparel featured in the mobile fashion truck. All kinds of clothes and other accessories are included. "I have mainly clothes and a few high heels, and whatever's in season. We go with the trend," she said.
This summer Sanders brought in studded denim shorts and handbags, popular summer items, for her customers. The clothes mostly follow the seasons and anything that happens to be in style. This fall and winter, Sanders plans to bring in different high and low top boot styles.
Following trends can be a difficult task, but Sanders uses magazines to stay up-to-date with the trends of New York and L.A. She works with a woman in New York to order her merchandise. "She's been helping me for about three years now. I like her style," Sanders explained.
New merchandise for the store comes every Friday and sometimes on Wednesdays.
The easiest way to see new merchandise on the truck is to follow the store's Instagram, @blushshoetique, their most widely used social media tool. "It helps a lot because it's free and it gets a lot of attention now. I can just upload pictures of what I have," she said.
Blush's Instagram is currently followed by almost 4,000 people and includes close to 2,000 different posts, most of which picture new arrivals and unique store items.
If a customer sees a product they would like to purchase online or on Instagram, they can buy the item through PayPal and it can be shipped to them within two days.
Look for the Blush truck at many college campuses in September, where they are traveling for homecoming weekends. The campuses include: Indiana State University, Indiana University, Butler University, and Purdue University. The truck will be set up for the entirety of each campus's homecoming weekend.
To reserve the fashion truck for your event, use their website, blush317.com, or email blushshoes@gmail.com. The truck accepts cash and credit cards and even provides an indoor dressing room for people to try on their selections.
