Buzzing Around Town - by Nora Spitznogle

Buzzing Around Town

I had a wonderful time at the inaugural WARMfest over Labor Day weekend. I enjoyed every minute that I was there and I felt like I was on vacation in my own neighborhood. I'm glad that I took the Wapahani River Sessions Paddleboat ride. I realized that I don't spend nearly enough time around our beautiful White River.
The music was all great and I especially loved seeing locals bands included in the lineup. Musical highlights were hearing Cari Ray's new songs, seeing United States Three play again, Pravada, discovering that I am a Big Head Todd and The Monsters fan, and all of the kiddos on stage with Michael Franti for the closing concert.
I also spent way more time in the Indie Arts and Vintage Marketplace are than I expected. Everything was displayed beautifully and it was fun to meet the vendors - I made so many purchases one day that it made for a long bike ride home.
I applaud the folks that had the vision to make WARMfest happen and I look forward to next year.

Indy Jazz Fest
Thursday, September 12 - Saturday, September 21
various locations
I suggest you check out the Indy Jazz Fest website now to purchase tickets. The Jazz Fest is a 10-day lineup featuring a mixture of education, panel discussions, and music. Several venues are participating, with the good deal of the festivities taking place at the Jazz Kitchen.

Not-for-profit director by day, music writer by night, Nora Spitznogle reviews music that happened and previews music and events around Broad Ripple Village. Nora managed CATH Inc coffeehouse at 54th Street and College Avenue for seven years. During that time she hosted hundreds of local and touring musicians, both at the coffeehouse and her home. When CATH closed in 2004 and the music was no longer coming to her, she had to wander from her corner of Broad Ripple to see what is happening elsewhere. You can find her at Second Helpings during the work day, waitressing at the Red Key on Saturday nights and prowling Broad Ripple music venues the rest of the time.
