There's a lot of news in the Ripple:
Broad Ripple Park Features Concerts, Food Trucks
Don't you love food trucks? Scratch, Pizza by the Slice, Cupcakes, Groovy Guys Fries and more are featured the second Wednesday of every month from 6 pm to 10 pm in Broad Ripple Park. (I had the seasoned fries. A steal for $3. My friend has the sweet potato fries.) So head on out Wednesday August 14 for their next event.
For music, the pay-what-you-want concerts continue with rock music, food trucks, and microbrews in the park on Friday July 19, 2013, and Friday August 9, 2013.
Enjoy the Broad Ripple Park pool in the next two weeks as the season is ending. The Broad Ripple Pool closes Sunday, August 4th, for the season. They are open Wednesday nights until 8 p.m. including on July 24, 2013, and their last Wednesday, July 31, 2013. (Be sure and contact Indy Parks to complain about this outrageously short season.) (The Jordan Y outdoor pool and Monon Center outdoor pools are open until Labor Day.)
At Holliday Park: Free Outdoor Concerts Continue
More outdoor concerts at Holliday Park: A Midsummer Night's Music with the Indianapolis Symphony was scheduled for July 18, 2013, at 7:30 p.m.
Thursday July 25th, 2013, Dave & Rae will play at 7 p.m.
Unleashed Dog Continues Attacks
Per my story in my last column, a large black dog, apparently named Kujo, is attacking bikers and walkers in the vicinity of 64th and College to 66th and College as well as along Riverview Drive. Contrary to what Animal Control told me after I was attacked, the dog pestering us apparently not a stray.
Bike rider Lowell told The Broad Ripple Gazette that he had a similar encounter near 64th Street and Riverview Drive a couple of weeks ago. He saw a big black dog up near the flood wall and stopped his bike. The dog came running toward him very aggressively and barking "like mad". The dog owner showed up but did little to call the dog even as the dog was giving every indication that he would tear his leg off. The rider turned around and asked if it was his dog. His response was to indicate with a hand gesture that he should move on. Similarly, Jill who lives near 66th and College Ave said the dog's name could be Kujo and the dog had attacked her dogs up on the levee in this area. Jill encountered the dog with the owner (and no leash) and owner proudly said his dog had never been leashed.
Indy Animal Control has set over 24 traps for this dog and shot him once with a tranquilizer (he got away). Please call the Indy Police and/or Indy Animal Control if you know where this owner lives or his name and use caution when on bicycle or foot in these areas. Persons with information on the dog or its owner should call Animal Control at 327-1397 or the Mayor's office at 327-4622. They have been trying to catch this dog since May.
BRVA Says Ok To Rezoning To Allow Whole Foods In Village
On July 9, 2013, the Broad Ripple Village Association voted 9-3 (with one abstention) to support rezoning the Shell Station (which would allow construction of a Whole Foods grocery store and apartment complex at the former Shell Station site (and demolish the apartment complexes behind it and behind Johnny's) subject to certain conditions concerning mitigation of traffic issues. This followed a meeting on July 8 where the developers apparently made a presentation with video.
Opti Park Rocks
Did you catch Matt and Kim June 29, 2013, at the Opti Park? A great show (free after 6:30 pm as well). They did a wild show and I was one of the few audience members that did not know the words to all of their songs.
