The annual election / quarterly public meeting of the Broad Ripple Village Association (BRVA) was held at the Indianapolis Art Center on October 23, 2012. About 50 were in attendance to vote for candidates for BRVA board positions.
A new feature of this quarterly BRVA meeting was a 30 minute social time at 7 pm, with the meeting starting at 7:30 pm.
First on the agenda was the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department. There was a discussion of the late-night loitering problem in the Village. IMPD has been bringing 25-50 officers in on the weekends to keep people moving and to patrol the streets. The importance of lighting was stressed. Residents can help by leaving on porch lights and can even add IPL lights to nearby poles. While North District statistics were not handed out, it was stated that in the past 28 days only one strong arm robbery occurred in the Broad Ripple area.
Mark Wolf then gave a run-down of the BRVA's past year accomplishments.
Finally, each of the eight candidates for the board introduced themselves. There were four open board positions. The four candidates voted in:
- Helen Carroll, Resident Member
- Adam Hill, Business Member, LOR Corporation
- Ben Shine, Business Member, Indianapolis Art Center
- Justin McKeand, Business Member, BMO Harris Bank
The next BRVA public meeting will be January 15, 2013, at the Indianapolis Art Center.
