The sixth annual Broad Ripple Music Fest is Saturday, October 13th, 2012, where historic Broad Ripple Village will be the setting for over 100+ musicians performing at a variety of venues, including dance clubs, neighborhood watering holes and also family and children's venues.

Last year's event comprised 15 locations ranging from 38th Street to 71st Street that featured over 125 bands. Attendance exceeded 3,500 and received local media coverage by WRTV, WXIN (Fox 59), WTTS and NUVO magazine.

"Broad Ripple Music Fest is a celebration of local and regional music, with a dash of national thrown in, too. BRMF takes over Broad Ripple Village all day and puts on musical acts of many genres -- rock, electronic, hip-hop, world music and more. The festival works with venues and promoters to put on an epic amount of music in bars, parking lots and record stores alike. We'll feature over 100 acts on over 12 stages," explained Jack Shepler, who was recently named BRMF's new Director after previously working as a creative resource, showcase planner and marketing consultant. Well known in the music community for his involvement as an event producer as well as for DJing (as Jackola), the festival is excited about the promotion and looking at a prosperous future.

Shepler described his background with the event: "I have been involved since the beginning, in 2007, while working at SmallBox in Broad Ripple. Jeb Banner, the CEO, decided instead of doing a usual Musical Family Tree showcase, we would put our heads together to come up with a new festival. I've been involved every year as a promoter. We have presented the electronic dance music showcase every year as well as a lot of the marketing, such as graphic design, website and social media. Seeing this festival grow into what it has become, I'm extremely excited and honored to take the reins as festival director. This year we plan to extend the festival's reach while honing in on local music from all sides of the musical spectrum. This year's festival is entirely within walking distance, all within two blocks of Broad Ripple Avenue. With so much amazing rock, hip-hop, jazz and electronic dance music right here in Indianapolis, the future of Broad Ripple Music Fest is looking bright!" Shepler noted.

He mentioned some of the venues already scheduled: "The Alley Cat Lounge will feature music from the Joyful Noise recording label. Peppers downstairs will have electronic dance music while Peppers upstairs features rock music from The-Instore.com. Kilroy's will have electronic dance music while a Girl's Rock theme will be at Indy CD & Vinyl. There are two tents at Connor's Pub that are sponsored by Pabst Blue Ribbon and Butler Scion that will feature indie rock. A new venue, Sabbatical (located at 921 Broad Ripple Avenue) will showcase rock music."

Music at Rock Lobster is sponsored by NUVO, featuring Oranje & Cultural Cannibals stages with jam bands and world music. Za Pizzaria Upper Room will have a Musical Family Tree showcase featuring acoustic music. Kilroy's tent, which is sponsored by Upland Brewing Company, will have electronic dance music.
