BRHS Alumni celebrate Poston's life

Gene R. Poston, former Broad Ripple High School choral conductor, passed away August 12, 2012 at age 82. He was a graduate of Arsenal Technical High School and Indiana University.
"Mr. P.," as students called him, began his teaching career in the early 1950's at Shortridge High School and joined the faculty at Broad Ripple in 1954. In 1960 he was appointed Chairman of the Music Department and Director of Productions. He retired from Board Ripple in 1980, and in 2007 the auditorium at the school was named the Gene R. Poston Auditorium. That same year the Gene R. Poston Legacy Foundation was established to enhance music education and commemorate his impact on his students' lives.
Gene was and active participant in numerous local and statewide musical organizations and was named a Distinguished Hoosier by Governor Daniels.
A memorial service was held September 2, 2012, at which several Golden Singer alumni and the current Broad Ripple Wind Ensemble performed.
