Midtown Indianapolis (formerly HARMONI) held a public meeting to discuss the plans for the development of a park at Alice Carter Place. This is the triangle of land former by Westfield Boulevard and Meridian Street from 5700 to 5800 [LL20 on map]. The Alice Carter Place is the mid-point along the Canal Towpath between the Indianapolis Art Center and the Indianapolis Museum of Art. The new park will feature a park lawn, sidewalks, a hard-surface area for sports and other activities, and a playground.
The audience was shown many possibilities for the playground amenities and was then allowed to vote on choices.
The pump house on the site is still active and is accessed by the water company often. The park planners are still looking for ideas, like a mural or screening.
There are several fund raising opportunities in the new park. Engraved pavers of various sizes can be purchased, as can larger items, such as a gateway planter and park benches, all with your engraved message. Act quickly, the orders for preserving your family name or business at the park is ending mid-May.
