Historic map helps celebrate Broad Ripple's 175th
posted: Apr. 13, 2012
The rich history of the White River above the dam at Broad Ripple is showcased in a poster available through the Friends of the White River.
The illustrated 11" by 17" map is being made available by the not-for-profit organization in cooperation with the Indianapolis Art Center as the community celebrates its 175th anniversary this month. Such features as the paddleboats that plied the stretch above Westfield Boulevard and the huge amusement park on the banks of the town's park are detailed, as are other lesser know locations, such as a speakeasy and bordello.
Proceeds from the sale of the poster will be shared between the Friends and the Center. It's available at the Basile Studio Shop of the Art Center for the price of $10.
