Gettin' Ripped in Ripple - Don't Step. . . .JUMP out of your Box - by Laura Minor

Don't Step. . . .JUMP out of your Box

If you are a regular exerciser, chances are you know your routine, and while it wasn't necessarily easy at first, you are quite good at it. Whether it be running, a weight circuit, or your regular Friday Pilates class, you are in a rhythm and you feel pretty good about yourself. However don't pat yourself on your back too much just yet. Yes, there is a catch. . . if your routine is well, just that, you will stop seeing the results you experienced at the beginning when your body was adapting to the exercise demands. And not only will your body get "bored" by the same ol' same ol' but so may your mind. So readers I challenge you this: This spring I want you to MIX IT UP, and try things that you never thought you would.
Let me give you a good example of this. Dolvett Quince is a butt-kicking trainer on NBC's The Biggest Loser. He is notorious for his bootcamp, no nonsense workouts and he is one tough cookie. Last week, he took his team to a ballet class. While he and the others (especially the men) scoffed at this "workout" they proceeded to get a whoopin' by using small weights with very high reps and body weight movements of which they were unaccustomed. They surely learned a lesson that the so-called "sissy" workouts aren't all that easy after all. And to add. . . .have you SEEN ballet dancers physiques?! They got that amazing strength somehow. . .
Recently So.Be.Fit. opened a new space in their current location and added several new classes. At all of the trainers urging, it has been very interesting to see our regular clients expanding their horizons and their reactions to taking other class styles. BootCampers have been trying Ballet Barre, and Heated Vinyasa Yoga. Pilates Fusion regulars have jumped into Sculpt and Hip Pop Cardio. Men and women alike, they have added new ways to challenge their bodies and their minds, and have learned to appreciate other forms of physical activity. Misconceptions and preconceived notions were admittedly dismissed (myself included). An added bonus: they have met new people in their neighborhood. Win, win, win!
So, I urge you, the next time you drive past a Yoga studio and begin to roll your eyes on the way to the gym to hop on your trusty elliptical machine, turn into that parking lot and take a class (or at least grab a schedule). And the reverse is true as well. . . If Pilates or cardio is all you think you need; think again. Go check out a BootCamp or Zumba class. You may just find that your routine needs a healthy makeover!!
