Reader Random Rippling - MIDTOWN INDIANAPOLIS MESSAGE...
posted: Feb. 17, 2012

What's up with Alice Carter Place Park? Midtown residents and motorists who pass by the triangle of land wonder. It's obviously being transformed, but into what?
The 1.36 acre property at 5700 N. Meridian was established 90 years ago by Albert Carter as a memorial to his wife Alice "Polly" Carter. Classified by the Indianapolis Parks Department as a Monument-Memorial Park, the plan back in 2004 was to open up the area to the public and make it user friendly. But this dream initially came from the Meridian Street Foundation several years earlier.
As both the gateway into the North Meridian Street Historic District and a connector for Meridian-Kessler and Butler-Tarkington neighborhoods, Alice Carter Place Park caught the eye of Midtown Indy and has become one of its projects in an effort to make Midtown beautiful, walkable, bikeable and sustainable. Adding trees, walkways, benches, art and play equipment will make Alice Carter Place the inspirational place for passive recreation, quiet reflection and community gathering Midtown has envisioned.
And things are moving right along. The public is invited to attend the second meeting on Alice Carter Place Park to be held at Riviera Club on February 29 at 7pm. On the agenda is: update on the park sidewalks and gateway entrance construction; discussion on architectural mural to screen pump house; opportunity to buy a brick or bench; and discussion of children's play area and its fundraising efforts.
Midtown residents and all others interested are encouraged to attend this meeting and see for yourself what the Midtown visionaries are getting done in our neighborhood. Get more info at midtownindy.org or contact Cindy Zweber-Free at czwebfree@aol.com or 727-7125.
