posted: Jan. 20, 2012

Mark Wolf called the quarterly meeting of the Broad Ripple Village Association (BRVA) to order at 7:06 pm at the Indianapolis Art Center (IAC). There were over 75 in attendance. First on the agenda was Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) Commander Tom Koppel. The commander reported that violent crimes in the Broad Ripple area were down 24% in 2011, residential burglaries were down 23%. The commander then introduced IMPD's new community relations officer for the Broad Ripple area, Lieutenant Chris Heffner. Heffner asked anyone with a question or a concern to please contact him directly at 327-3164 or christopher.heffner@indy.gov.

Next on the agenda was Rob Sabatini speaking about Broad Ripple's involvement with Super Bowl activities. Rob said that south of Broad Ripple avenue, the section of Guilford Avenue between Jimmy John's and BW3 will be closed. North of Broad Ripple Avenue, the entire block of Guilford Avenue up to Westfield Boulevard will be closed. The south section will have beer trucks and a beer garden. The north section will have a 10,000 square foot heated structure for concerts and parties and other activities to held Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Super Bowl Sunday. Details can be found at www.broadripplesupersite.com as they are available. Concert info is on page 5 of this issue.
A report on the 175th Anniversary committee was next. Details of that committee can be found in the BRVA's News and Views on page 24 of this issue.
A discussion on the Broad Ripple Avenue bike lanes was next. There were some strong comments from the audience against the new lanes. The city will be making adjustments in the spring to two, yet unnamed, intersections to improve flow.
Tom Healy presented the achievements of the Broad Ripple Alliance for Progress in 2011 and plans for 2012.
The next quarterly BRVA meeting will be at 7pm on Tuesday, April 17, 2012, at the IAC.
