Canal mural is featured in new Flanner and Buchanan space at Washington Park North
Flanner and Buchanan commissioned a scene of the Broad Ripple Canal to be painted on a wall at its Washington Park North location at 2706 Kessler Boulevard, West Drive (56th Street). The room, called The Canal Room in honor of this treasured landmark, is a flexible venue for events -- from funerals and memorial services, to anniversary parties and wedding receptions. The 15-foot wide scene of the Illinois Street bridge was created by Indiana artist Sharon Hedges.
Sharon has painted other murals in Mooresville and Wabash. She described her work on the canal mural, "Bruce Buchanan had some terrific ideas of what he wanted on the "canal room" wall. He wanted the Illinois street bridge in a fall scene with wildlife. I began work immediately on a mock-up of what I was going to do. I went to take a look at the wall, the room was not even nearly ready when he contacted me, but he told me what he had in mind for the room and I had a good "feel" for what he wanted. I got my supplies gathered up and quickly went to work for them, (by the way nicest staff and group of people I've worked with). It was a great, fun project for me and hoping to complete some more murals in the future."
