Buzzing Around Town - by Nora Spitznogle
posted: Dec. 16, 2011

Buzzing Around Town

I owe a huge apology to the lovely and talented Sean Baker (and his mom) - I misnamed him in the preview of the Leisure Kings show. I'm very sorry.
I want to remind you that music makes the perfect gift and it's easy as mincemeat pie to purchase. Wander in to any of our local music stores - Indy CD & Vinyl, Vibes or LUNA music - and asked to be pointed to the local music section. If you can't decide, pick up a gift card. Feel free to use this edition of the Gazette to wrap your gifts.
So, Merry, Merry and Happy, Happy. I'll see you next year.

Holiday Sing-A-Long
Monday, December 19, 2011
The Jazz Kitchen
5377 N. College Ave, 6-8 pm, free, non-smoking, 21+
Warm up your vocal cords - the spiked eggnog and wassail will help - and sing-along with special musical artists. David Allee and the Jazz Kitchen crew will provide complimentary appetizers and the eggnog. You get to live out your dream of singing at the Jazz Kitchen.
The Jazz Kitchen is a swanky club that is comfortable and affordable to the likes of us. The menu is New Orleans meets the Midwest, there is a great beer and wine selection and fancy cocktails at the bar, and the service is lovely.

Birdy's Annual Xmas Bash
Wednesday, December 21, 2011
Birdy's Bar and Grill
2131 E. 71st Street, 8:00 pm, 21+, $5
Birdy's annual Xmas Bash features local bands playing Christmas tunes with a twist. The interpretations are always fun and quirky and sometimes involve helium tanks. It wouldn't be the annual party without the bands Vinyl Shriner and Lines of Nazca. They will be joined by Jake Brothers, BROODIS, Henry French, and the Creme De Les Femmes Burlesque Show. I must admit that I can't wait to see what the band, Kiss Me Under the Cameltoe is all about.
There is always a yummy buffet and a chance to tell Santa what you'd like for Christmas. If you'd like to bring rice or pasta for Second Helpings that would be grand, and you will get $1 off the $5 cover!

Holy Rock Show, this will be an awesome concert! Chevy Downs is having a one-night reunion stand, Otis Gibbs is in town, and throw in Endiana and Voodoo Sunshine round out the delicious rock goodness.
The members (David Moore, Tim Jones, Seth Greathouse, Andy Snyder, John Byrne, Jason Brammer) of Chevy Downs are gathering from the corners of the county to charm our cowboy boots off. I can promise that your toes will be tapping and your bum will be shaking to the power pop rock.

Not-for-profit director by day, music writer by night, Nora Spitznogle reviews music that happened and previews music and events around Broad Ripple Village. Nora managed CATH Inc coffeehouse at 54th Street and College Avenue for seven years. During that time she hosted hundreds of local and touring musicians, both at the coffeehouse and her home. When CATH closed in 2004 and the music was no longer coming to her, she had to wander from her corner of Broad Ripple to see what is happening elsewhere. You can find her at Second Helpings during the work day, waitressing at the Red Key on Saturday nights and prowling Broad Ripple music venues the rest of the time.
