Broad Ripple Lights Up!
Saturday, December 10, 2011
2:00 - 7:15, free, all-ages
The Village kicks off the winter holiday season in charming style. The day is filled with children's activities, firehouse tours, horse-drawn carriage rides, Santa, food, twilight parade, and ends with the lighting of the 21-foot tree at the Broad Ripple Fire Station.
Schedule:
2:00 -5 :00 p.m. Kids activities, entertainment, refreshments, visits with Santa, firehouse tour
5:30 p.m. The twilight parade starts, bringing Santa and Mrs. Claus through the Village in a horse-drawn carriage. The parade starts at the Broad Ripple High School, turns west on Broad Ripple Avenue, north on College, and east on Westfield Boulevard, ending at the Broad Ripple Fire Station.
6:00 p.m. Santa and Mrs. Claus arrive at the firehouse, more entertainment, parade entry winners are announced. Free horse and carriage rides begin.
7:00-7:15 p.m. The M&I Bank tree is lit, and Broad Ripple Lights Up! for the holidays!

The Leisure Kings Holiday Extravaganza
Saturday December 17, 2011
Vogue Theater - 6259 North College Avenue
7:00 - 10:00 pm, $15 (12 advance), 21 +, nonsmoking
The Leisure Kings will bring the whole shebang to their holiday extravaganza. A sixteen piece band - or as they write, "14 amazing musicians - and two jerks - will take the stage on a mission to deliver the music & hilarity you need to help you start your holidays off on just the right smart-assed note."
Put on your holiday finest and soak in the genius of Mike Wiltrout and Adam White - the two jerks - and holiday cheer. This is a special early show, ending by 10:00. If you haven't been to the Vogue in decades, this would be a great time to swing back in. You can save three bucks on tickets if you buy in advance. The box office is open from noon - 5:30, M-F. I love buying tickets at the Vogue, it's fun to be in the club when it's empty.

Not-for-profit director by day, music writer by night, Nora Spitznogle reviews music that happened and previews music and events around Broad Ripple Village. Nora managed CATH Inc coffeehouse at 54th Street and College Avenue for seven years. During that time she hosted hundreds of local and touring musicians, both at the coffeehouse and her home. When CATH closed in 2004 and the music was no longer coming to her, she had to wander from her corner of Broad Ripple to see what is happening elsewhere. You can find her at Second Helpings during the work day, waitressing at the Red Key on Saturday nights and prowling Broad Ripple music venues the rest of the time.
