7th Historic Home Tour set for Sept 24, 2011
by Alan Hague
posted: Sept. 16, 2011

Since its inception in 2005, the tour has showcased sixty-six historically unique Broad Ripple homes. This year, the tour will feature eight more.
The primary goal of the Broad Ripple Historic Home Tour is to tell a bit of the story of each home. Tour guests will learn some of the many fascinating facts uncovered about each home and those who have lived in it over the years. Some stories have been heartwarming, while others are tinged with sadness. The tour is primarily historic in nature. Guests will also learn more of the architecture specific to the Village and interior design of tour homes.
Built between 1911 and 1946, the homes on this year's tour range in style from a charming one-story cottage to an appealing three-story Colonial. Tour goers will be provided with a tour booklet, which includes histories of the properties' former owners, descriptions of changes made to the homes over the years, and other interesting facts.
Many of the homes on this year's tour are near one another. If you are able, consider taking the tour on foot or on a bicycle. You'll be able to get a better sense of how living in the neighborhood might have been at the time these homes were built.
Proceeds from the tour will benefit the Broad Ripple Village Association. Founded in 1969, the BRVA is the oldest and largest volunteer organization actively working on initiatives to improve the quality of life in Broad Ripple. Among the BRVA's ongoing activities are projects to make the community cleaner, safer, and more attractive. To learn more about the neighborhood, visit www.DiscoverBroadRippleVillage.com.
The home tour will be Saturday, September 24, 2011, from 10am to 6pm. Tickets are available for $10 until the day before the tour at ten Marsh Supermarket locations, at the Broad Ripple branch of M&I Bank, and at the Broad Ripple store of Hubbard & Cravens Coffee & Tea Co., as well as online at www.broadripplehometour.org. Tickets will be sold for $12 on the day of the tour at four of the eight tour homes - 6232 Washington Boulevard, 6012 Broadway Street, 6040 Carrollton Avenue, and at 1318 Kessler Boulevard East Drive.
