All the while you've been reading about my week in the Languedoc in May (THANKS for enjoying months of what happened in a week~), I have been tasting hundreds of NEW wines avail in the Indy market. So this week it's back to "In My Bin"-my look at the bottles in my recycling bin. This week no bottles dumped before they hit the bin or unavailable in the Indy market. Enjoy!
Sula Chenin Blanc, India-LOVE the label. A sunshine man with a moustache. LOVE that it's from India and very quaffable. And can be found for less than 10 bucks. Notes of apricots, honeysuckle. Off dry and truly more like a lush off dry riesling than chenin blanc. Delicious!! Add a plate of cheeses and fruit and kick back to enjoy the good life.
2010 Dry Creek Vineyards Fume Blanc, California-One of my favorite Sonoma county producers does it again. This expression of California Sauvignon Blanc ROCKS! Great nose and flavors of lemongrass, herbs, subtle grape fruit and green pepper. YUMMMY! Pair it with some Thai food and swoon!!
2010 Dry Creek Vineyards Chenin Blanc, California-The DCV Chenin is probably the wine I turn to the most when I don't know what I want to drink or pair with food. Its always balanced, fresh, fruity, lively. The 2010 continues the tradition. Lovely nose and flavors of tropical fruit-but the exotic kind. I get mango, tangerine, mandarin orange. Dry yet the silky zippy fresh fruit flavors and great acidity liven the drink as it goes down. PERFECT for Thanksgiving turkey, Holiday ham, oysters on the half shell, grilled chicken, BBQ shrimp.
2009 Willamette Valley Vineyards Riesling-I tasted this off dry gem and started selling it several months before it garnered the 2011 Indy International Wine Competition "Wine of the Year" award. Now everyone knows why I love this off dry white with lush notes of white peach, and clean crisp mineral finish. GREAT food wine. Get it for Thanksgiving turkey!!
2008 Silverwing Pinot Noir, Australia-earthy, juicy, medium bodied expression of the elegant French grape. Unusual for Aussy? Not really. Their next door neighbors the NZ's are making Pinot a priority so makes sense the Aussies are doing what they can to pull out the red fruit, subtle earthy aspect of this lovely grape. Another WINNER for Thanksgiving dinner. Or grilled salmon.
2009 Arenal Carmenere, Chile--Oh I love Chilean wines. And you will too when you taste this one. EZ drinker-plenty of rich red fruit in light-medium bodied mostly dry wine. The fruit and soft tannins and touch of spice and smoke. Yum. NOT like other Carmenere which can be a bit veggy and taught. Date this one. Take it home to your mother. Or your sister or brother or friend or fellow wine lover.
