Random Rippling - American Legion High School Oratorical Competition

American Legion Broad Ripple Post 3 at College Avenue and 64th is the annual host for the Marion County portion of the American Legion High School Oratorical Competition. There are 57 eligible public and private institutions offering secondary school education in the county in addition to home schooling.
At the competition held on Saturday January 8th, 2011,, the winner was Austin Ryan of the International School of Indiana. Runner-up was Ronald F. Taylor of Brebeuf Jesuit Preparatory School. They presented original prepared 10 minute orations relating the Constitution to the role of a citizen of our country.
Mr. Ryan advances to the next level of competition. The zone , state, and national finals will be held in the next several months and include an additional short extemporaneous element. The National Forensic League, which governs the high school speech and debate competition across the nation, has recently entered into an alliance with the American Legion to mutually promote and support the programs.
