Opti Park, at 66th and College Avenue, was packed on September 18, 2010. With more than 4500 in attendance, there was barely room for one more lawn chair. The weather was beautiful and there was plenty to eat and drink on the fest grounds (Your editor enjoyed the Chili Cheese Etouffee with Crawfish from YATS). Several Gazette staffers were there, having taken advantage of the free school bus shuttles from the Glendale parking lot.
"The Indy Jazz Fest is happy to have found a new home in Broad Ripple," said event organizer, Jazz Kitchen owner, and trumpeter David Allee. "Watch for an expanded line-up during the weekend portion of Indy Jazz Fest 2011. Plans are to have multiple stages on the grounds of the Indianapolis Art Center plus other attractions such as local brewers, wineries and restaurants, art sellers and cultural booths. Also, 2011 should prove successful in attracting a regional audience as we are able to announce the line-up much earlier this season."
Chuck Workman interviewed the artists between sets.
The great Al Jarreau took the stage at 7:45pm.
