Random Rippling - PechaKucha Night
posted: Sept. 03, 2010
PechaKucha Night Indianapolis #10 was held at the Vogue Theater in Broad Ripple on August 27, 2010. "PechaKucha Night was devised in Tokyo in February 2003 as an event for young designers to meet, network, and show their work in public. It has turned into a massive celebration, with events happening in hundreds of cities around the world, inspiring creatives worldwide. Drawing its name from the Japanese term for the sound of "chit chat", it rests on a presentation format that is based on a simple idea: 20 images x 20 seconds. It's a format that makes presentations concise, and keeps things moving at a rapid pace."
Tom Healy - Canal Dreams
This night at the Vogue there were eight presentations: Craig McCormick - Whitewashed Peopleboxes, Mark Latta - The Label is Dead! Long Live the Label! Redefining the Concept of a Record Label as One of a Hyper-niche Music Curator, Sarah Zuckerman & Justin Musgrove - Monumental Installation Problem, Kyle Hodges - In Defense of Jazz, Jessica Clark - LUNAcy, Tom Healy - Broad Ripple Canal Dreams, John Beeler and Michael Kaufmann - Tea Partiers, Xmas, YouTube, The Lifespan of a Trending Topic, & The Brian Cox Syndrome: How Marketing Is Best Done When You Lose Control, and Neil Cain - Spontaneity in the Streets & The Sweet, Swelling Underground. Following the presentations The Pieces (Vess Ruhtenberg, Heidi Gluck and Devon Ashley) performed in concert.
Each presenter has 6 minutes and 40 seconds to present their 20 slides on any subject. PechaKucha #10 ranged from personal photographs to commercial promotion. There was a pretty good turnout for the show. A shocker for this reporter was watching the dozen or so attendees sitting at the surrounding tables loudly put down many of the presenters shouting "get off" and waving thumbs down. This was my first PechaKucha, so maybe that is part of the show? For more information visit www.pecha-kucha.org/night/indianapolis/
