Buzzing Around Town

The Innocent Boys, Matt Hopper, Lovely Houses
Friday, September 3, 2010
Indy Hostel
4305 Winthrop Avenue - 317.727.1696
7:30, all ages, $5
This show will be a great way to kick off the holiday weekend. The Innocent Boys includes the talented Jayme Peyton. Not only did Jayme used to live right down the street from the Hostel, but he was a big part of the Reverend Peyton's Big Damn Band, touring with his brother and sister-in-law and living in the band van for the good part of a year.
Matt Hopper is a prolific songwriter and nomadic soul. He has lived everywhere from Alaska to NYC and we're happy to have him in our corner of the world.
Lovely Houses is Indianapolis based, and quite lovely. Beautiful songs and spirit. If you've never been to Indy Hostel this is the perfect chance to check it out. There is a beautiful outdoor stage (and plenty of room to move the show indoors if the weather is wonky) and a lovely vibe to the house. It wouldn't hurt to bring a lawn chair or blanket for the show.
I'll see you there!

The festival started as a family picnic and has evolved into a big neighborhood fair. Music all day, artisan booths, children's games (until 5:00) and French food, of course.

Roast beef sandwiches and BBQ ribs will also be available.
Sweets include beignets, cheesecake, cream puffs, éclairs, Madeleines, iced cappuccino and Café du Monde. A bake sale will add to the gourmet selections.
Dozens of artisans will be setting up booths adjacent to the church grounds selling artwork, jewelry, apparel and religious items.
Raffle prizes include a $1500 cash prize, a motorized scooter, a handmade quilt by Pat Crossland (which is always beautiful!), jewelry by Hofmeister Personal Jewelers, a bicycle from The Bike Line and a Colts Tailgate Party by The Pawn Shop Pub with Colts tickets donated by Sommer Awning Group.
Mass will be celebrated at 5:30 p.m. in the historic church.

Not-for-profit director by day, music writer by night, Nora Spitznogle reviews music that happened and previews music and events around Broad Ripple Village. Nora managed CATH Inc coffeehouse at 54th Street and College Avenue for seven years. During that time she hosted hundreds of local and touring musicians, both at the coffeehouse and her home. When CATH closed in 2004 and the music was no longer coming to her, she had to wander from her corner of Broad Ripple to see what is happening elsewhere. You can find her at Second Helpings during the work day, waitressing at the Red Key on Saturday nights and prowling Broad Ripple music venues the rest of the time.
