The public meeting of the Ravenswood/White River Neighborhood Association met on May 3 at the Glendale Christian Church, 1788 Haynes Avenue. Susan Stamm, head of the association, introduced Don Colvin, deputy director of Indy Parks. Don showed the current plans for Riverwood Park, located across Crittenden Avenue from the church, which could include a softball diamond, two green fields for soccer or lacrosse, and a trail around the perimeter of the park.

Don explained that there is a new development in the plans for a sewer line that will run along the edge of the park. While the project to install that line is not controlled by Indy Parks, it does impact the park. In the original Department of Public Works plan for the sewer line, the line was to be installed along the edge of Riverwood Park using a boring method that would preserve a stand of over 100 year old oak trees. It has now been determined by a contracting firm that a substantial savings could be realized by clearing the trees and trenching.
The decision on trenching vs. boring has not been made yet. If DPW decides to cut down the trees and trench, Indy parks will ask them to help pay for the park trail and softball diamond additions to Riverwood Park. DPW plans to hold more public meetings later in the year on the sewer project. The next Ravenswood meeting is scheduled for Monday, August 2, at 7 pm.
