Random Rippling - Boy Scouts of America awards banquet
by Alan Hague
posted: Apr. 02, 2010

The North Star District of the Crossroads of America Council, Boy Scouts of America held its annual awards banquet recently, and a number of local adults and youth were presented with some of Scouting's highest awards.
The 2010 Crew Advisor of the Year was awarded to Rich Gargas for his outstanding service to Crew 1121 chartered by the Eagle Creek Park Foundation.
The 2010 Cub Master of the Year was awarded to John Schingel for his outstanding service to Pack 179 chartered by the Crooked Creek Elementary School PTA.
The 2010 Scout Master of the Year was awarded to Dr. Jim Walsh for his outstanding service to Troop 269 chartered by St. Andrew Presbyterian Church.
The District Award of Merit is Scouting's highest district-level award, and is presented to those who have given "noteworthy service to youth," going above and beyond the responsibilities of their volunteer position in their support to the district and its members. Receiving this award were Charlie Meyer and Carla Gargas.
The following boys earned Scout's highest rank, Eagle Scout. They earned the rank after demonstrating leadership in their respective troops, completing the required 21 merit badges and extensive community service projects. Nationwide, only four percent of Scouting's national membership attains the Eagle badge, but this year alone the North Star District awarded 33 boys this honor.
