Go Local and Support Breast Cancer Awareness month
Mallow Run Winery near Bargersville, Indiana, has selected the St. Vincent Foundation to receive its first donation of $5,000 from proceeds of its two PINK wines.
In July of 2009, Mallow Run released two rosé wines (one dry, one semi-sweet) with the intention of donating a portion of the proceeds from these wines to benefit breast cancer research and awareness.
Rosé wines are lightly colored pink wines made from red grape varieties. Red wines extract red color during fermentation with the red grape skins. Rose wines have little or no skin contact and so contain much less of the red pigments.
The dry version of PINK is made from Zinfandel grapes with aromas of strawberry and notes of red berry and pink grapefruit. The semi-sweet version of PINK is made from Syrah grapes and is loaded with strawberry and melon flavors. Both wines retail at the winery for $12.95. www.mallowrun.com

2007 Swinging Mountain,"Really Red" Blauer Zeigelt Reserve, Austria- This medium bodied dry red features the Zeigelt grape. It reminds me of a smooth tempranillo. Lots of bright cherry, plum flavors, easy going tannins. Great wine for casual cuisine like pizza, burgers or Mexican.
2008 Swinging Mountain,"Sweet Harmony", Late Harvest, Austria- This off dry white is a blend of Chardonnay and Welschriesling. Lots of tropical fruit with hints of honeysuckle make for a fruity, refreshing wine perfect with grilled chicken or fish.
2008 Domaine Monte de Luz, Cabernet Franc, Uruguay- Lush, bold dry red made from a grape that originated in the Loire region of France. Aromas of dark red fruit and smooth flavors of wild blueberry, plum plus chewy tannins make this a perfect match for beef, venison, duck.
