Fall Gallery Tour kicks off autumn

posted: Sept. 18, 2009
There were 18 stops along the 2009 Fall Gallery Tour. The weather was great and the crowds turned out. A new feature of this tour were free horsedrawn carriage rides by Majestic Carriages. Handmade sushi sets were on sale throughout the tour, with proceeds benefiting VSA Arts of Indiana. With the Broad Ripple High School football game the same evening, I was unable to visit every gallery. I started at the Indianapolis Art Center (IAC) where they had an open house and sold handmade bowls including a bowl of chili. Also at the IAC was author J. Scott McElroy signing copies of his book Finding Divine Inspiration: Working with Spirituality in Your Creativity. From there I visited Hoosier Salon to see Oil and Water Do Mix! by artists Joyce Jensen, Gail Overpeck, and Rodney Reveal and Editions Limited to see their Home Grown exhibit. Chelsea's featured wirework artist Anne Weinheimer, and next door was Jackie Headley's Hallowe'en Collection at Addendum. The Bungalow showed pieces from the new Graduate Furniture Design Program at Herron School of Art. Artifacts showed Knock on Wood from Joel Hunnicutt, Mike Mahoney, and Bob Sorrels. By this time it was almost 9 P.M. and the end of the tour. I rushed down to 59th and College to the southern-most stop, Curt Churchman's Fine Estate Art & Rugs. Curt knows the press can't resist fried shrimp and veggies!
Also on the tour were The Village Experience, Honeysuckle Home, Sigman's Gallery, Demerly Architects, Big Hat Books, Marigold, The Potter's House, McMurray Fine Art, The Thompson Collection, and Ashland Gallery. Additional pictures are viewable at www.broadipplegazette.com.
