The Pawn Shop Pub, west of 54th & Keystone Avenue, sponsored the 2nd Charity Party benefitting the Odyssey VistaCare Hospice. Frank Dodd , a loyal Pawn Shop pub customer, passed away in June 2008 and was lovingly cared for by the staff of the Odyssey Vista Care Hospice, so the pub sponsored a second fundraiser on Sunday, August 23, 2009, as a special memorial to Frank.

Frank's wife, Anita Dodd, said that Frank was in World War II and was awarded five bronze stars and a purple heart with two clusters, meaning he was wounded three times! Frank and Anita were members of American Legion Post 34, where they met Robert & Barbara Diemer and Brian Halloran who ran the American Legion and now own and operate the Pawn Shop Pub. Anita and Frank followed them to their newer endeavor and became regulars at the Pawn Shop. Sarah Eberhart of the Pawn Shop Pub organized this fund raiser and had hopes it would more than double last year's $2100 that was donated to Odyssey.
The Sunday Triathlon event began at 8:00 am with a golf tournament at South Grove Golf Course and was followed by bowling and later corn hole at the Pawn Shop. Many fabulous donations were raffled, such as a flat screen television, golf club set, luggage, tail gate basket, beach kit, charcoal grill, massages, car washes, gift certificates at local restaurants and much more.
The money donated to Odyssey VistaCare Hospice will be used to support and educate persons and organizations dealing with life limiting illnesses as well as put to use in grants such as: Dream Foundation (fulfills final wishes for terminally ill adults); Sky Camp (bereavement camp for children who have recently lost a loved one); Palliative Care Physician Fellowship Program (established in several major healthcare organizations); Clergy End-of-Life Education Program (educates clergy on how to meet spiritual needs of hospice patients and families); Patient Special Needs Assistance Grants (for utility bills, groceries, rent, etc. for patients and families with financial hardships).
Special tiles in some of the outdoor tables at Pawn Shop Pub are available as a personalized memorial.
