I would like for someone to explain to me how we misplaced a sense of commitment in this country. We are a society that just quits or walks away when things don't suit us. We say we believe in a cause, but often times we put forth very little effort in the purpose of that cause. When did commitment stop meaning a pledge or binding and become "maybe if it suits me I'll show up and participate".
Where would we be as a nation if people followed that lack of commitment in Philadelphia in 1776? Would there have been anyone left to fight at the Alamo with this modern sense of commitment? At the Alamo, volunteers decided to fight against overwhelming odds till the last man was killed. An extreme example, yet to those men it was their sense of commitment that enabled them to fight against those odds and lead Texas to its independence.
There is account after account in history where committed men and women went against all the odds and impacted their communities, and even our communities today. To what are you committed? What are you willing to endure in order to stand by that commitment? God created you for a great purpose, and mere existence is not going to take you to the place that you were created to be. Give some thought about the kind of legacy you want to leave in the history we are currently creating. Remember the Alamo.
Shalom.
