Summer Sippers 2009: Part ONE
Time to grill. Even if its raining. (Is it safe to grill in lightning and hail? Hmm-I guess it depends on what WINE you will be serving with the food once its cooked as to how much risk one puts into cooking outdoors in bad weather!)
Grilled foods go great with the following bottles but you don't have to risk life and limb or time and energy-these are FOOD friendly wines-which means just about anything you put on the plate will taste even better with a glass from one of the following.
The latest vintages are on the shelves of local wine shoppes and liquor/multi beverage businesses.
Whip up some cold pasta salad, or grill salmon, burgers, ribeye-or pick up a roasted chicken from the grocery. These wines CRAVE food-and you will crave the combo once you give one or two or 7 a try. Enjoy!
Boxhead White, Australia-Subtle hints of white grapefruit, lemon, lime. Dry white. DELISH!!
Dry Creek Vineyards Fume Blanc-crisp dry white features Meijer lemon nose and flavors-wonderful soft mineral finish. FAB with shrimp pasta salad, cold macaroni salad, or grilled shrimp.
Dry Creek Vineyards Chenin Blanc-Flavors and aromas of tangerine, mango, and that DCV soft mineral finish makes it a CLASSIC summer food white wine. Or ANYTIME! FAB with grilled fish-tilapia, halibut, or chicken.
Dry Creek Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon-Oh my. I got chocolate covered cherries when I tasted this full bodied dry red. Great fruit but enough chewy tannins to want grilled beef on the grill. T Bone, Ribeye or Filet-come and get it!
Dry Creek Vineyards Heritage Zinfandel-Old vines again--rich, lush, packed with blackberry, plum, cherry, chewy spicy. GREAT with burgers, ribs, or ribeye on the grill.
2007 Groom Sauvignon Blanc, Australia-Zippy, tangy, fresh white grapefruit aromas and flavors and then lush, silky yet crisp mid palate and finish. AMAZING white wine-Get it while you can.
2006 Groom Shiraz, Australia-Big, bold, full bodied dry red with thick aromas of wild black raspberry, pepper, tobacco, leather-delicious flavors of wild red fruit, spice-that go on and on and on... chewy, rich, lush, WOW.
