Life's Ripples from Broad Ripple United Methodist Church by Rev. Timothy Rasmussen

As Memorial Day approaches each year, it triggers memories for most of us. Memorial Day started in the south prior to the end of the Civil War. It came about as women from both sides went out and put flowers on the graves of the fallen soldiers because they did not want their loved ones forgotten.
Take a minute and think about how important memories are in our lives. We remember soldiers who paid the ultimate price for our freedoms, and we remember family and friends who still impact us even though they have passed from this life.
Memory is an amazing gift. It can be used in a myriad of ways, and can even help us avoid problems and repeat mistakes. Unless we are a sociopath, most of us have done things that we wish we had not done. In our humanity, we are going to continue to face situations where we have to make tough choices. If we remember how we felt after we made previous wrong choices, we may be able to process and make the better choice the next time we're faced with a dilemma.
God gave us a beautiful brain that is able to process between right and wrong, good and bad. As we spend each Memorial Day honoring those that are important to us, we should take a few minutes for self examination and set a new attitude of trying even harder to make the right choice when situations arise in our lives, and remember that you are never forgotten by God who loves you. Hope you had a good holiday.
