Joy's House recognized over 60 Central Indiana caregivers for their assistance to loved ones during a special caregiver retreat at Christ the King Catholic School on Saturday, September 27th, 2008. The adult day service hosted their annual A Day Away program, providing respite and information on valuable community resources.
The Indiana Health Care Foundation (IHCF) served as a presenting sponsor. A 501 (c) (3) organization promoting health care issues concerning minorities, aged and chronically ill Hoosiers, "IHCF is also involved in supporting research and awareness projects to improve healthcare outcomes and the delivery of healthcare services. The Indiana Health Care Foundation is a proud sponsor of A Day Away," said Executive Director Dorothy Henry. "We support caregivers through the education of access to care by making them aware of programs and services that support their efforts of caring for their loved ones," she added.

A Day Away seminars included topics such as "Finding Joy in Caregiving," "Hands-on Skills for Caregivers," "Understanding Memory Loss," and "Ask an Attorney." Hoaglin Fine Catering provided a gourmet lunch to attendees in addition to chair massages and other activities.
"Caregivers do so much. It's our way to give back to them," said Tina McIntosh, Joy's House President and founder. She became inspired in making an adult day service possible in 1999 after volunteering at a similar place when she was a freshman at Ball State University.
Over 300 people attended their 2008 Black Tie Gala on October 10 at the Mansion at Oak Hill in Carmel. Guests enjoyed a four-course dinner prepared by Chef Joe Condes, fine wine and entertainment. Raising over $80,000, it helped further Joy's House mission: "To provide an opportunity for adults, aging and those living with physical and/or mental challenges, to participate in a social environment designed to improve the quality of life, while also offering temporary relief for the caregiver(s)."
