Random Rippling - American Farm Heritage Museum buys local train
posted: Sept. 26, 2008
Have you ever traveled up Allisonville Road and thought you saw a small train just south of 71st Street? No, you weren't crazy. Hugh Wharton, local RCA engineer, was just playing with his model trains. Over the years he built a 1/4 scale steam engine with tender, a diesel engine and a Pullman car. The tracks ran from the front yard of his home to the back corner of his property adjacent to real train tracks. This larger-than-normal model train set was spotted in the Gazette classified ads by the American Farm Heritage Museum in Illinois. The museum brought trailers and several train enthusiasts to transport the stock westward. www.americanfarmheritagemuseum.org
