THE PERFECT PAIRING:

If you like wine you probably enjoy art. Or at least that seems to be the vibe from galleries. You don't go to many openings where beer or bottled water is the beverage of choice. Most galleries offer wine. Good reason. Winemaking is an art. And combining the two seems to be the perfect fit.
With the help of Broad Ripple resident/artist/photographer Casey Jo Ailes, we add to your Wine Scene with a bit of review on the world of art--and the wines that "show" with it.

SEE, TOUCH, TASTE: MASS AVE FALL GALLERY WALK 2008

At the IMC Gallery in the 400 Block of Mass Ave you are taken away to Italy as you gaze at photos and paintings of the Italian countryside by local artist Casey Crist, for those of us who have been there it brings back memories of places and people we have seen and for those of you have not, it will make you want to start planning your next holiday there.
Walking East on Mass Ave the Chatterbox was more then just a Jazz Club for the evening, they transformed into local art bazaar, with photographs, pens and paintings, not to mention the drinks and Jazz, as always inviting.
But the venue to visit for the evening was the Dean Johnson Gallery, with a line outside and a gallery packed with art, people and wine, this place was hopping till after 9pm. This fall group show, included amazing organic sculptures by artist Izabela Kowalewska-Cole, photographed below, along with Gayla Hodson's colorful abstract paintings these are just few of the pieces you will see inside this corner stone gallery.
My Friday nite of pouring great wine started at the Whitfield Agency in the 400 block of Mass Ave. I poured Powers Cabernet Sauvignon- a juicy, fruit forward, organic dry red that comes in a BOX!! Hey, hey, don't walk away. One taste and you too will know why sometimes its okay to get "boxed in".
Also poured: Big Moose Red- yummy dry blend of Bordeaux style grapes with touch of Syrah to make this red a "gulper".
Castoro Cellars Muscat Canneli- Tropical Paradise in a glass! Softly sweet, overwhelmingly pleasing to the palate this white wine is easy drinking, affordable FUN.

Eye Candy- (hip jewelry store) right across the street was offering Blue Jean Red--a yummy red grape blend from California. Full flavor in easy drinkin style---just like your favorite pair of jeans.
Dean Johnson Gallery- Cuvee de la Pena--another BOX wine--this a dry, rich, spicy red Rhone blend from south of France. Columbelle White--fun blend of sassy Ugni Blanc and sensuous Colombard grapes create a scintillating, softly sweet experience.
Art Bank- 811 Mass Ave- Mike Palmer of Vinture Wines was offering a savvy selection of reds and whites. The Tangent Albarino is crisp, dry, citrusy white...and Razor's Edge Shiraz-big bold Aussie style red.

NEXT ISSUE: Casey and Jill review the Broad Ripple Gallery Tour. Find Jill and her wines at Der Glass Werks. Casey Jo and her camera will be out and about.
